Whilst it seems at times there is a choice to be made between celebrating May Day as the pagan festival Beltane, or as International Worker's Day, I have come to the opinion that both are the same. As celebrations of libidinal freedom suffused with orgiastic intent, be that social, political, sexual, or spiritual, May Day is a time of chaotic abandonment and rising solar power. Whether you take to the streets with a flag in your fist, or the green woods to go a May-ing, I wish you happy freedom on this day. The clip below of the Haymarket Martyrs sketches out the origins of the eight hour day struggle which led to the foundation of International Worker's Day. The 2nd and 3rd parts can easily be found by following the links afterwards.
